greater des moines
music coalition

The festival was founded by the 501(c)(3) non-profit Des Moines Music Coalition in 2008 to support the organization’s mission: growing and cultivating Des Moines’ music economy.

In the years since, the Des Moines music scene has played a pivotal role in the city’s cultural redevelopment. More shows, venues and festivals are bringing audiences and activity to all corners of the city. Bands and fans from across the country are traveling to Des Moines to be a part of that excitement and opportunity and nowhere is that more obvious than during 80/35.

Proceeds from 80/35
are reinvested into
the community and support the
following DMMC programs:
  • Youth Music Education: after school programs and summer rock and hip-hop camps for middle school-age students, encouraging our next generation of artists.
  • Music University: a conference connecting Des Moines musicians with music industry experts, support and resources to help them achieve their professional and artistic goals.
  • DMMC Music Fellowship: a career-focused education initiative offering select local musicians rigorous training and mentorship.
  • Advocacy: working within central Iowa to highlight important issues affecting the Des Moines music economy and community.
